What's in Your Home?

Home is the place that welcomes you when all other pathways have grown hostile and cold. In this place called home, are many places that cradle and comfort a weary mind and over extended soul. A home is a sanctuary where you can pray to God and hear him speak in the silence of your heart. Since Almighty God is the source of all beauty and creativity, a home can be a place where you are daily awed and energized by Him, and daily receive contentment that cannot be deflected by circumstance. Whether a garden carefully tended, a string of beads strewn across a table top, or a meal carefully prepared for waiting mouths by loving hands, the moments lived in our homes make us what we are in the world outside our homes.

A home speaks our strength in ways both invisible and material. Great riches are had wherever contentment can be found, and the beauty of contentment never requires an abundance of material possesions.

Most of all, I think, a home is a gift. All men do not possess a home in the strict inorganic and material sense of the word. Our first home is our bodies, our second home is our mother's womb. Our third and subsequent homes move with us sequentially through space and time: A series of landmarks in our earth bound journey to eternity in heaven or hell.

Wherever home is, it is sure to be adorned. Maybe not as lavishly as the tiled courtyards of Pompeii, or the palaces of ancient Egypt, Italy, Greece, or Timbuktu. Decoration can be as simple as a collection of rocks on a table, or wild flowers in a vase. We place within our homes, objects that resonate in accordance with what is in our spirit.

The selection of mosaics and tiles presented here are intended to adorn sacred objects, wall surfaces, ceilings, mantlepieces, the places where spirit, soul (mind), and body meet. They are intended as medicine: To decrease the frequency of distressed sighs, and to facilitate prayer and meditation, and bright moments in time.
