Beauty for ASHES: Remembering 911 Digital fine art tapestries: Jennylights Designs

21st Century Fine Art is Different
The computer revolution has created a plethora of imaging tools, which are increasingly more adaptable to the creative demands and technical needs of the visual artist. It comes as no surprise that more and more artists are learning that the world of computer-based imaging offers possibilities never before dreamed of. Consider that 24-bit true color offers a palette of 16 million colors. In the traditional artist's loft there could never be enough physical space to make such a vast array of colors both present in the artist's space, and available for efficient use in daily work. Today's digital artists enjoy the freedom of an enormous number of colors to choose from, without having to worry about space and safety requirements. The visual artist traditionally interprets and records historical and fictional events. The 21st Century artist functions in much the same way. But, because the physical logistics of incorporating other artistic disciplines into a particular work have been overcome by digital technology, visual artists are free to expand the media of their expression. Hence, words and three dimensional qualities can be as important as color, texture and form. |
Difficult times demand broad vision.
We stand today at the threshold of a newly aware America. No one will ever forget the pain experienced and witnessed in the aftermath of the September 11th massacres in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. The damage, intellectually and psychologically, is inestimable. Many Americans found themselves experiencing anxiety and depression. Everyone desires healing. No sense will ever be made of the horror of that day. But healing can and will take place. I have no doubt but that traditional and digital fine artists will stretch the limits of their imaginations and all the tools of their respective trades, in order to express the post 911 conflicts and new awarenesses that might otherwise be impossible to communicate both to other Americans, and to those who live and think outside of our infinitely diverse American culture(s) and belief systems. Some of the works on display at e-graphX were created out of the desire to resolve the feelings of grief, rage and uncertainty that have become a tangible reality since September 11th. Yet, like the phoenix, the dispirited will rise from the ashes of hate and destruction, and will live to grow yet stronger. Because we have faith, we also have hope, and vice versa. Because new life can and does spring most green in unthought-of places, e-graphX has titled this exhibit, "Beauty for Ashes". Healing is the Cure for Pain.
